HOME DEPOT job details

  • Lead designer on 5+ major projects (Pro Xtra Mgmt. Portal, Pro Xtra Perks, Account Details, etc.) I worked as the lead on numerous larger projects. This is with input from stakeholders, developers, other designers, etc.

  • Converted 200+ screens for modernization effort (conversion and process changes). When I first started there was an effort to convert from an old design system to a new one. In this process there was also the desire to update ineffective processes and design. This was not a “lift and shift” and more a redesign while using new styles and components.

  • Research including formulating research plans and implementation including user interviews. I had the pleasure of conducting both moderated and unmoderated research. I wrote the research plans, got them vetted, and enacted them. I even conducted field research which I really enjoyed.

  • Designing solutions, iteration, and collaboration to craft the best version product. See below

  • Working w/ engineers / stakeholders to ensure viable  solution and fits business needs. I believe that design is not limited to designers. The process works best when everyone that wants to have input can contribute. This prevents discovering technical issues later as well as everyone understanding why something may not be the best fit for a design.

  • Created wireframes, prototypes, IA, miros, and other necessary documentation. Design has to be shared in multiple facets to ensure all needs are met. And many times these other documents help to shape the design.

Goal: To update the Account Details page to be a more effective resource for users

Timeframe: two months

Team: one UX designer for research, one UX designer for app development, consults with UX Design team, developers, and business stakeholders

Roles Throughout The Project: user interviews, affinitizing, ideation, sketching, wire framing, prototyping, creating a presentation, and discussing the presentation

Key Findings:

  • functions that were needed immediately and regularly were on different pages

  • the organization of information made it difficult to find

  • other than verifying the account this page was not used

The full images and specifics of this project are things that I can discuss in some more detail during an interview. Here is a limited overview.

Product (Account Details Page) prior to investigation and improvements

planning

For this project, the ask was very open. To redesign the Account Details page and make it more effective. The question is, what would make it more effective?

Employees previously submitted Usabilla feedback which was researched. There were feedback sessions with employees who used the tool to get some ideas. These were affinitized and used to determine some problem areas.

EARLY DESIGN

The ideas from the research was used to form a rough idea of what the new design could be.

Here, you can see a low fidelity wireframe that was done using a tablet so that it could be manipulated and new versions could be created quickly in working sessions.

From these working sessions, higher fidelity wireframes were produced and were ready for user testing.

POLISHING THE DESIGN

Tasks were created to test the effectiveness of the new designs. User testing verified how well employees could complete those tasks. Based on the results, feedback, and other factors the designs were updated in a series of designs. This cycle continued until a product emerged as the desired version.

Next Steps:

  • Customization. Either per role or the ability for each individual user to rearrange and save this page in a way that suits them. Account managers will need different information than a store associate than a call center employee so the customization would be helpful.

  • Including more white space so that it is not only has less cognitive load but also helps with the organization.

  • Integrate contact linking. The ability to contact a representative by their ID was incorporated, but not to email or call directly from this page.
